BIA ANCSA sites

The Bureau of Indians Affairs (BIA) maintains a large collection of data on Alaska Native historical places and cemetery sites across the state. The collection was assembled during implementation of Section 14(h)(1) of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) of 1971, an ongoing project funded by the Federal government. The effective date range of the data collection is 1975 to the present.

The oral history component of the collection is housed at the BIA ANCSA Office in Anchorage, but copies of all tape recordings have also been placed in the Archives of the University of Alaska Fairbanks (Alaska and Polar Regions Collections, Elmer E. Rasmuson Library). Copies of oral history tapes specific to the Calista Region are also held by Calista Corporation in Anchorage, and the Association of Village Council Presidents in Bethel.
